Care & Instructions...

Our knives combine the best of quality materials, craftsmanship, and technology. A Fehrman knife is the combination of many attributes: The steel, the heat treat, the blade design, tip design, grind type, edge geometry, the handle design, the handle materials, the fit of the handle, the tang, the sheath, the fit and finish of the knife components, the overall fit for the user, availability, the cost versus value, and the knifes warranty are all critical in producing a knife that will exceed all expectations.  If you find yourself in a survival situation you will be glad you have a Fehrman Knife!

Out of the Box
Your Fehrman Knife will be sharp, we sharpen & strop each knife by hand before it leaves our shop.  Please note that our edges are not razor thin.  These are hard use, chopping-type blades with a geometry that balances edge durability and cutting efficiency very well.  Enjoy your new knife, it will serve you well in the broadest range of applications and situations.

The Steel
CPM-3V has a decent amount of Chromium in its chemistry, however, it is NOT stainless steel.  It is easy to maintain if you exercise a little care.  We recommend you clean your knife at the end of every day of use and apply a thin coating of oil.  If you purchase a knife with our tough coating, only the blades edge is exposed... oil this edge and your blade will serve you well for life!

Coating
Our knifes come with a "Powder Coat" finish.  This extremely tough coating is baked-on in our furnaces.  Although this is one of the most durable coatings you can find, it can wear off over time, this is not a problem and is perfectly natural.  Simply make sure the exposed areas are cleaned and oiled frequently.  We have exposed our coating to some solvents, gasoline, and kerosine all without effect, however, please be aware that lacquer thinner, mineral spirits, etc. can strip the coating.  We recommend you clean your knife with soap and water.

Sheaths
All of our sheaths are made from heavy duty leather.  The Survival and Tactical Series blades are also lined with kydex.  Clean & protect as you would any fine leather product.

Sharpening
We recommend using a ceramic stick/rod for light touchups and medium to fine diamond stones for more serious sharpening.  A Lansky Sharpener also works well (get the diamond stones).  A diamond file, 420 grit, works well for field sharpening (try Harbor Freight)
